Is mental health related to heart health?
Ayurveda has always emphasized connection between heart and emotions. It regards Heart as seat of emotions of love, compassion an devotion.
Heart also regulates Prana- life force and Vyana Vata- which governs circulation. Given this, Ayurveda believes maintaining a good heart health is essential for good mental health and vice versa.
Ayurveda Marma Therapy has identified certain Marma points to improve heart health and same marma points are used for treating Manovaha srotas- the Mind channel.
In modern science, brain was always solely linked to mental health. We are used to correlate ‘logical thinking’to ‘using brain’ and ‘emotional responses’ to ‘following heart’. However, research is now finding that head and heart may not be operating quite so independently after all.
In fact, decades of research has revealed a strong connection between mental health and heart health, such that a substantial drop in either one may be linked with a decline in the other, too.
Experts in cardiac psychiatry—who focus on treating mental health issues in people with existing cardiac diseases—suspect the head-heart connection is bidirectional, with poor mental health potentially worsening heart health, and heart health conditions upping your chances of mental health issues. Though much of the research in this arena centers on depression, there’s also evidence that anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, and even chronic stress are also related to heart health in the same way.
The researchers say, “there’s a significant and measurable heart-health benefit to experiencing a positive mental state- and stresses both the importance of seeking treatment for any mental health condition and of finding ways to support your psyche daily, regardless”.
They recommend, “Even if you don't have depression, anxiety, or any other mental illness, taking care of yourself, cultivating gratitude, and doing things that feel important and meaningful can really have benefits not only for your emotional well-being but also for your heart.”.

Isn’t that’s what Ayurveda is about?
