Marma (Massage)Therapy

Science of Marma

Our body is a silent electro-biochemical laboratory. Touching a Marma point can change the biochemistry and can unfold alchemical change in one’s bodily makeup, by signalling the body to produce exactly what it needs- hormones, neurochemicals- that facilitate physical, emotional and energetic healing at deepest levels.

- Dr V Lad (Ayurvedic physician & founder of Ayurvedic Institute USA)

Some treatments in modern Medicine like Urgent PC are based on nerve stimulation using low intensity electrical impulses, delivered through a needle.

Marma Therapy is 100% natural, non-invasive technique, also based on stimulating nerves/bodily currents/neuroelectrical impulses through their superficial connection points, by using pressure or different stimulation techniques.

Marma Therapy is different and profound than acupressure, reflexology or trigger-point massage as it facilitates physical as well as mental healing and offers a virtually unlimited therapeutic applications and benefits as mentioned below.

Marma is a junction point between matter and consciousness, a station where quantum body and outside world intersect.
Invisible to eyes, Marma are accessible through touch and are critical for maintaining balance throughout the body.
— Dr Deepak Chopra, M.D., Author

How Marma Therapy works?

Our body produces many helpful chemicals- endorphins, enzymes, hormones. Prana (Life force) is the energy current that infuses every cell.

A Marma is a vital energy point located on the surface of the body, which taps into this reservoir of energy. These are located at anatomical sites where nerves, veins, arteries, tendons, bones or joints meet or intersect. Upon stimulation, they activate doors to body’s own pharmacy, as they trigger electro-chemical responses, which aid in healing a range of ailments.

Marma therapy is multi-dimensional; by changing the marma points and stimulation techniques, it is used in treating many physical-psychological conditions. It is a diagnostic tool as well.

The Ayurvedic text describes 117 Marma points (Marmani) located on a human body, each with own energetics, delivering a specific healing response upon stimulation. Upon knowing the condition to be treated, the Practitioner will identify which Marma points will be involved as part of the treatment.

Marma therapy can be applied as whole body or part body therapy, depending upon the condition treated. In some cases, more than one Marma therapy session may be required.

A little oil may be used during the treatment.

After lying on the bed, the therapist locates the specific Marma points, related to the condition, with hand and then applies different stimulation techniques to these Marma points as necessary.

After-care

It is advised to relax after having the massage to gain the full benefits.

As the Marma therapy enhances the flow of life force to the specific organs for which the treatment is administered, it is important to focus on these organs and not to do anything that would aggravate them. Your therapist will advise the after-care applicable.
