Oil: the Elixir
Oil is essential ingredient for our functionality and therefore existence as such.
But often a neglected one or one not favored as its consumption increases cholesterol.
But we are not talking about consumption of oil, but about using a lot of oil for massage.
Let’s see why.
Our body is similar to tree as per Vedic systems.
Healthy trees have oil in their seeds, bark, leaves. When the oil dissipitates for any reason, the tree becomes dry. Many grains and legumes have oil in them.
Similarly, we need oil for well functioning joints, hair growth, tissue health and for overall body health. Even anus has oil, which if lost due to using soap, can lead to itchiness and infections.
Oil is necessary for good mental health too; since ancient times in India, people with high intellect are called as “Taila Buddhi” meaning ‘well-oiled intellect’.
Therefore, Ayurveda therapies use lots of oil in a variety of ways to nourish the body and mind:
Specific oils are used for treating specific conditions or symptoms in many therapies
In massage for healthy skin and joints
In treatment of many mental health conditions with Shirodhara
For emotional release or heart health, in Hridaya-Vasti
As carrier of herbs in many therapies, through the largest organ- skin
For beautification, in Ayurveda facial
For pain relief, in Kati-basti
Why not try any Ayurveda massage and experience lasting nourishment like never before?
