Udvarthan : Detox,
Skin Rejuvenation & Toning

Treatment in brief

It is a multidimensional treatment.

Coarse herbal paste or powder is applied over the body (below neck area) and massaged with specific movements to improve the circulatory system and aiding the metabolic activity. The technique’s aim is to create gharshana (friction) and not much pressure.

With a selection of herbs, this exfoliating massage is highly beneficial in breaking cellulite, reducing excess body fat as well as effecting skin toning and detoxing. It also helps remove energetic blockages and releases suppressed emotions and effects on stress stored at subcutaneous levels.
This is not a remedial type of massage like Abhyanga.

After 3 treatments I feel so much light and energetic. Body fat at unwanted places is reduced and muscles & skin feel much toned.

Preparation

  • Please do not shave using razor or harsh chemicals within at least 48 hours prior to treatment. Some herbs may have a stinging-like unpleasent sensation on subtle bruises caused while shaving. If you have booked appointment within less than 48 hours of shaving, then please apply some antiseptic cream and hydration to heal these bruises or please let practitioner know to reschedule.

  • To maximize treatment benefits, recommended to have a shower prior to treatment so skin pores open up.

  • Please do not eat in 1.5-2 hours prior to appointment

  • Use washroom prior to the start of the treatment if required.

  • Wear old clothes

  • Bring an old towel to cover your car seat after treatment.

  • Do not schedule any hairdressing or stressful appointments on the same day.

  • Be prepared to have your body covered in medicated liquids and herbs.

  • Please remove piercings where possible prior or advice the practitioner re those which can not be removed.

  • Depending upon body fat content and BMI, multiple i.e. 3 to 5 or more sessions may be required for desired effect.

Treatment Process

  • A light energy balancing massage using medicated oil suitable to client’s constitution is performed first in most cases.

  • The herbal paste/powder is rubbed all over the body in specific strokes on different body parts.

  • The absorptive properties of the herbal powders act to metabolize excess fat deposits from the body. The gharshana performs the cleansing action, including for lodged emotions.

  • After the massage, steam is sometimes recommended (not advised in all cases). During this treatment the body loses lots of excess water (kapha) and the skin pores start to open. When the pores open, the herbal oil mixed with the paste can penetrate deeper into the skin.

After-care

  • It is beneficial to leave herbal paste/powder applied for an hour after treatment. However, at the end of treatment, most of the herbal powder/paste will be removed with damp towels, however some may remain. So please have shower after an hour. Only use non-soapy body wash. Apply some natural hydration like aloe-vera gel or jojoba oil after shower.

  • Take warm shower. Avoid hot shower.

  • Recommended to apply some jojoba oil (warm) after shower.

  • Avoid long travel and busy shopping centres.

  • Avoid going to beach and extreme weather conditions

  • Allow relaxation for 1-2 hours after your treatment for best results but do not day sleep or nap immediately after your treatment

  • Follow a gentle evening yoga routine.
