Many international guidelines recommend a holistic approach for women during perimenopause and menopause, and not having a sole focus on HRT/MHT.

At Ayusha we provide atleast half of the RCT evidence-based holistic options recommended by these guidelines.

These include approaches such as therapeutic massage, stress-reduction techniques, lifestyle guidance, meditation, movement therapy and mind–body support — all recommended in international menopause care guidelines.

About 45-50% women use Natural therapies for Menopause symptoms.

At Ayusha Ayurveda in Newcastle and Bondi, we focus on the body, nervous system and emotional layers that aren’t covered by prescriptions alone.

Understanding Menopause – Western + Ayurvedic view

Around 80% of women experience symptoms during menopause, and about one in four find them severe enough to affect daily life.

Menopause is now understood as a spectrum — from perimenopause through to post-menopause.

During this time, estrogen levels decline, which affects many systems in the body. This is why menopause is not just about periods stopping; it affects the whole body.

Several changes often happen at the same time:

  • Sleep becomes lighter

  • Muscle mass reduces and joints feel stiffer

  • Skin becomes drier and thinner

  • Metabolism slows

  • Digestion may become slower

  • Circulation may reduce

  • The nervous system becomes more sensitive to stress

  • Recovery from stress and fatigue takes longer

These changes affect:

  • Brain centres that regulate temperature, sleep and mood

  • Genital and urinary tissues (often called GSM symptoms)

  • Bone turnover and joint health

  • Metabolic pathways that influence weight, blood pressure and cholesterol

When sleep is poor and the nervous system is constantly under pressure, symptoms such as fatigue, weight gain, brain fog, joint pain and mood changes often become worse.

This is why menopause support should focus on the whole body — sleep, nervous system, digestion, circulation, joints, skin and emotional wellbeing — not just hormones alone.

Ayurveda describes menopause as a Vata-dominant phase of life associated with gradual tissue depletion (Dhatu kshaya) and reduced resilience (Ojas), sometimes with lingering Pitta heat in some women. Which is why menopause symptoms often include fatigue, anxiety, hot flushes and changes in weight or digestion.

In Ayurveda, menopause is seen as a natural transition into a more Vata-dominant stage of life — with tendencies toward dryness, lighter sleep, anxiety and reduced resilience if the body is not well supported.

Neither modern medicine nor Ayurveda suggests that women should simply suffer through menopause. Both recognise it as a major life transition where the body and mind need thoughtful support, not dismissal.

In your body, Menopause can feel like a full-system rewrite.

How menopause can show up in your life?

  • Brain Fog: Forgetting names, misplacing items, struggling to stay focused and feel like yourself.

  • Weight Gain & Low Energy: No matter what you try, the weight won’t budge, and you’re too tired to care.

  • Dryness: An overall dry feeling everywhere, skin issues

  • Hot flushes and night sweats that leave you sweaty, shivery and exhausted.

  • Sleep disturbance – trouble getting to sleep or staying asleep, early waking.

  • Joint pain and stiffness – “creaky” knees, hips, back, hands; fear of losing strength.

  • Genitourinary symptoms (GSM) – vaginal dryness, pain with sex, burning, bladder urgency, recurrent UTIs, pelvic heaviness or fear of prolapse.

  • Mood and cognitive shifts – low mood, anxiety, irritability, slower recall, feeling “flattened”.

  • Other odd sensations – headaches or migraines, palpitations, dizziness, tingling in hands/feet, burning mouth, restless or heavy legs, skin and hair changes.

  • Identity and intimacy changes – different libido, 'suffering in silence’, feeling less at home in your body, uncertainty about how to be intimate now.

Not all of this is “just hormones” – but hormonal change often amplifies everything else that was already on your plate.

These symptoms are common, but they don’t have to rule your life.

How Holistic Care at Ayusha Can Support You Through Menopause

At Ayusha, menopause support focuses on nourishing and supporting the body - moving well and sleeping well. Emphasis is gven on calming the nervous system, supporting digestion and metabolism, lubricating and strengthening tissues, and building resilience and vitality (Ojas). The aim is to help the body adapt to this stage feeling supported rather than depleted.

Our therapies may help by:

  • Calming the nervous system and improving sleep

  • Supporting hormonal balance and pelvic health

  • Improving circulation and lymphatic flow

  • Reducing fluid retention, bloating and inflammation

  • Supporting joints, muscles and stiffness

  • Nourishing dry skin and tissues

  • Improving digestion and metabolism

  • Supporting emotional wellbeing and mental clarity

Most women benefit from regular treatments over time rather than one-off sessions, especially during menopause when the body needs ongoing support.

How We Work / What To Expect

We usually begin with either a Menopause Consultation or a therapy session depending on your situation.

During consultation, we look at:

  • Hormonal stage and symptoms

  • Sleep and nervous system

  • Digestion and metabolism

  • Lymphatic flow and fluid retention

  • Joint and muscle health

  • Emotional wellbeing and stress

  • Lifestyle and daily routine

Based on this, we may recommend:

  • Specific therapies

  • Diet and digestion support

  • Lifestyle adjustments

  • A treatment plan over time

We work alongside your GP or specialist where needed.
Our approach is gentle, practical and focused on long-term support rather than quick fixes.
The aim is not to “fight menopause”, but to support the body so this transition feels more stable, more manageable and less overwhelming.

What Changes Women Often Notice With Ayusha Support?

Many women who come for menopause support notice gradual, gentle changes rather than sudden fixes. As the body becomes more supported and the nervous system becomes calmer, many symptoms begin to settle.

Women often report changes such as:

• sleep becoming deeper and more refreshing
• hot flushes becoming less frequent or less intense
• feeling calmer, more emotionally steady and less anxious
• energy becoming more stable through the day
• less bloating and more comfortable digestion
• joints and muscles feeling less stiff
• skin and body feeling less dry
• feeling more grounded, more resilient and more like themselves again

From an Ayurvedic perspective, this happens as Vata begins to settle, Agni becomes more stable, tissues become better nourished and the nervous system moves out of constant stress mode. Rather than targeting one symptom, the aim is to support the whole system so the body can adjust to this stage of life more comfortably.

Many women say the biggest change is not just fewer symptoms, but feeling more comfortable in their body again and better able to cope with life and it’s transitions.

What’s involved in Ayusha’s evidence-informed holistic support?

Our focus is to help you:

  • Feel more comfortable and confident in your body

  • Build strength and steadiness for the next decades

  • Navigate pelvic, intimacy and identity changes with care

We work across four main pillars.

1. Body-based support (warm, nervous-system-aware care)

Gentle, respectful bodywork using warm oils and slow, attentive care to ease muscle and joint pain, stiffness and “armour”, soothe nervous-system over-drive and support deeper rest and improve circulation and a sense of “being in” your body again.

2. Movement, strength & balance for joints and bones

We help you (re)build trust in your moving body with simple, joint-friendly strength work and yoga-style mobility tailored to your joints and energy. Together, these support bone density, joint comfort and confidence in daily life..

3. Mind–body / nervous system support

Using guided relaxation, breath, body awareness and gentle cognitive tools – to help you sleep more restfully and reduce night-time “mind noise”, reduce the distress around hot flushes, night sweats and pain and work with grief, anger, fear of ageing and role changes in a contained way.

These approaches don’t deny symptoms – they change the brain’s relationship to them.

4. Pelvic & intimacy-aware support

Many women say the pelvic and sexual side of menopause is the hardest to talk about. We take it seriously and gently.

Our work may include: Helping your nervous system feel safer around the pelvis, supporting you as you integrate GSM treatments, pelvic floor physio or psychosexual therapy from your medical/physio team, and exploring body image, shame, fear of rejection and changing intimacy needs through mind–body and reflective practices.

We stay firmly within scope: no internal exams, no promises to “fix prolapse” or “restore libido on schedule”, no interference with medical treatment.

Key Benefits of Ayusha’s Menopause Coaching

  • Ayurveda recognizes that every woman’s experience with menopause is different.

By identifying your unique dosha (body type) and imbalances, Ayurvedic therapies provide tailored solutions that address your specific symptoms—whether it’s hot flashes, anxiety, or fatigue—ensuring effective and sustainable relief.

  • Ayurvedic therapies are natural, plant-based, and free from side effects, making them a gentle alternative that works in harmony with your body.

Unlike conventional treatments that often rely on synthetic hormones or medications, Ayurvedic remedies use safe, herbal formulations, combined with dietary adjustments, and lifestyle changes to support your body’s natural hormonal balance. This helps reduce symptoms like mood swings and irregular cycles without introducing artificial chemicals into your system.

Ayurveda works along with HRT if you wish to continue HRT. We are not against conventional treatments at all, but will work with your GP/Specialist.

  • Conventional treatments often target immediate symptom relief but may not address underlying health issues. Ayurveda takes a broader view, focusing on strengthening your overall vitality, improving digestion, and boosting immunity to help you thrive beyond menopause.

  • Stress is a major aggravator of menopause symptoms. Ayurveda with its gentle detox practices, bodywork therapies, evidence-based meditation and pranayama (breathwork) work to calm the mind, regulate stress hormones, improving emotional resilience, and improve sleep quality, leaving you feeling more grounded and emotionally balanced.

  • Many women find that some conventional treatments can come with unwanted side effects, such as weight gain, bloating, or mood disturbances. Ayurveda uses natural, plant-based remedies and lifestyle strategies that work in harmony with your body, ensuring relief without added discomfort.

  • Beyond addressing menopause symptoms, Ayurveda empowers you with tools and knowledge to take charge of your health. By improving gut health, digestion, supporting joint health, emotional resilience and boosting energy, it equips you to embrace this phase of life with confidence and vitality.

Ayurveda doesn’t just treat symptoms—it truly empowers you, so you can empower others around you.

“Key to navigate Menopause is to listen to your body, tackle the symptoms early on and embrace change with self-care and balance.”

Menopause is a natural stage of life. The question is not whether it happens — but how supported your body and mind are during the transition.
That’s where Ayurveda helps.
