Gut and your health

Ayurveda has put CENTRAL emphasis on maintaining a good gut health through diet and other lifestyle recommendations.
And for a while, this concept was laughed at by modern sciences- but not anymore!

Research is now confirming link between gut ill-health and many diseases.

A world-first Edith Cowan University (ECU) study has confirmed the link between Alzheimer and gut health, discovering people with AD and gut disorders have genes in common. Whilst the study didn’t conclude whether gut disorders cause AD or vice versa, the research also indicated diet could play a part in treating and preventing AD and gut disorders.

Chronic inflammation is often the root cause of major diseases in the body and healthy microbial diversity in gut lowers levels of inflammatory compounds in the body, meaning converse statement can apply as well.

Processed foods are one of the main reasons for ill gut health and also some antibiotics can lead to life-threatening fungal infection because of disruption to the gut microbiome – new study has found.

Recent neuroscience studies have found that the biological makeup of the gut could contribute to some of the most characteristic symptoms of ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). More specifically, experiments on mice suggest that the pathway between gut bacteria and the central nervous system can affect social behaviors, suggesting that gut microbiota can indeed play a role in social behaviors.

Gut micobiome is of great importance in maintaining health. A well-balanced microbiome is associated with longevity, lower instances of anxiety and depression, and can also lessen your risk of developing chronic conditions.

All sorts of things can help improve your gut health, including exercise, reducing stress, eating foods that support your microbiome regularly (looking at you, fiber-filled leafy greens, avocados, and foods rich in both prebiotics and probiotics).

How do you know your gut is healthy? These are 3 signs of a generally healthy gut:

  1. You have regular bowel movements- 1 or 2 times day

  2. You get gurgeling sounds in stomach sometimes in a day

  3. You feel energised and clear headed, no need for a coffee!

Sounds like Ayurveda? Indeed yes!
